Enugu Community: Police Refute Herdsmen Invasion Claims
The Enugu State Police Command has refuted recent reports alleging that herdsmen have invaded and occupied homes and schools in the Eha-Amufu community of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area. In a statement released on April 2, 2025, Police Public Relations Officer SP Daniel Ndukwe described these claims as “baseless, mischievous, and misleading.”
SP Ndukwe emphasized that no part of Eha-Amufu or any other community in Enugu State is under siege or has been displaced. He clarified that the farm settlements mentioned in the reports are temporary structures used by farmers who periodically return to their villages. While acknowledging past farmer-herder clashes in 2021 and 2022, he noted that joint security operations have since restored peace to the area.
The Police Command also criticized the use of unrelated images in the circulating reports, pointing out that some photos were taken from incidents in neighboring states and misrepresented as recent events in Eha-Amufu. For instance, images of burnt houses from a February 4, 2025, attack in a neighboring state were falsely presented as occurring in Eha-Amufu.
Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa urged the public to disregard these unfounded reports and assured residents of the Police Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He encouraged citizens, especially those in Eha-Amufu, to remain law-abiding and report any genuine security concerns through official channels.
