Fake Circular Alert: CBN on N5,000 and N10,000 Notes
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has refuted claims regarding the introduction of new N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes, labeling such reports as false. In a statement via its official handle on X (formerly Twitter), the CBN clarified that the content circulating is not from the bank and urged Nigerians to rely on official communication channels for accurate information.
The purported circular, which gained traction on social media platforms like WhatsApp, falsely attributed statements to a supposed Deputy Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Tahir Jr., suggesting that the new denominations were introduced to enhance liquidity management and reduce cash-handling costs. The CBN emphasized that no such announcements have been made and advised the public to disregard the misleading information.
