Nationwide ‘Hands Off’ Protests: Trump and Musk in Focus

On April 5, 2025, millions of Americans participated in over 1,200 “Hands Off!” protests across all 50 states, voicing opposition to President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Organized by more than 150 progressive groups, including civil rights organizations, labor unions, and LGBTQ+ advocates, the demonstrations addressed concerns over the administration’s policies, such as mass federal layoffs, agency closures, deportations, and cuts to social and health programs.

Major cities like Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago saw tens of thousands of protesters, while smaller towns also experienced significant turnouts. Public figures, including Senator Cory Booker and former President Barack Obama, joined the demonstrations, emphasizing the importance of defending democracy and resisting the current administration’s agenda.

The protests also targeted Elon Musk’s involvement in government, particularly his role in the White House Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Demonstrators expressed concerns about Musk’s influence on public institutions and economic stability, especially in light of recent tariff policies that have contributed to market downturns.

These nationwide demonstrations highlight growing national discontent and increasing mobilization among citizens across the political spectrum. Organizers and participants have called for continued activism to address the administration’s policies and their impact on various communities.
