SERAP Calls on Tinubu to Reject $1.08bn World Bank Loan

Urgent: SERAP Demands Probe of Missing N233bn Funds

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the alleged mismanagement of $1.5 billion in World Bank loans and $3.121 billion in Chinese loans obtained by the Nigerian government for poverty reduction and social protection initiatives.

In an open letter dated August 10, 2024, SERAP urged the President to direct the Attorney General and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to conduct thorough investigations into these loans.

SERAP emphasized that ensuring accountability in the utilization of these funds is crucial for building trust in democratic institutions and strengthening the rule of law. They highlighted that impunity for corruption will persist if high-ranking public officials remain unpunished for alleged crimes.

The organization also noted that while governors may have immunity from arrest and prosecution, they do not have immunity from investigation, and findings could serve as grounds for impeachment proceedings.

Regarding the alleged missing N233 billion, there is no specific information available in the provided sources. However, SERAP has previously urged President Tinubu to probe alleged missing funds in various ministries, including N57 billion in the Humanitarian Ministry.
