
Tragic Taraba Boat Accident: Six Lives Lost, Nine Saved
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, a tragic boat accident occurred on the Jole River in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State, resulting in the deaths of six passengers, while nine others were rescued.
The boat was carrying 15 individuals when it capsized midstream. Rescue operations, conducted with the assistance of local divers and community volunteers, led to the recovery of nine survivors and the bodies of the six deceased.
The victims have been identified as:
- Dadi Mallam Dotti (30)
- Mubarak Abdu (21)
- Bappa Mallam Dotti (20)
- Adamu Yayagardi (30)
- Madugu (22), all from Badabdi, Funakaye LGA of Gombe State, belonging to the Terawa ethnic group
- Umar Gambo (34) from Zaura Ward, Damban LGA, Bauchi State, of the Karakare ethnic group.
The boat driver is currently at large, and efforts are underway to locate him.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident and are working to prevent future occurrences. This incident underscores the need for stringent safety measures and regulations in water transportation within the region.
