Boko Haram Threatens Stability: Governor Zulum’s Warning
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has expressed deep concern over the recent resurgence of Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings across the state. Speaking during a Special Expanded Security Meeting at the Government House in Maiduguri on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Governor Zulum stated that the frequency of these assaults, often occurring without adequate military resistance, indicates that Borno State is losing ground in the fight against terrorism.
He highlighted specific incidents where insurgents overran military formations in areas such as Wajirko and Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area, Wulgo in Gamboru Ngala, and Izge in Gwoza LGA. These attacks resulted in the displacement of military personnel and the loss of civilian lives, which Governor Zulum described as significant setbacks in the fragile peace efforts within the region.
In response to these developments, Governor Zulum has called upon the Federal Government and the Nigerian military to intensify their counter-insurgency operations. He emphasized the necessity of denying Boko Haram any opportunity to regroup, rearm, and launch further attacks on the state’s territory.
The Borno State Expanded Special Security Council has echoed these concerns, urging for increased support from federal authorities to address the escalating security challenges. The council also recommended clearing more land to enable communities to engage in the upcoming 2025 rainy season farming, aiming to bolster food security and reduce reliance on aid.
