Governor Muftwang: 64 Plateau Communities Under Bandit Threat
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, has reported that bandits have seized control of 64 communities within the state. In a recent interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Governor Muftwang expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity, noting that these communities have been overtaken and, in some cases, renamed by the bandits.
The governor emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that the sustained attacks should not be dismissed as mere farmer-herder conflicts but recognized as acts of genocide against the native populations of Plateau State.
This development follows a series of violent incidents in the region, including the December 2023 massacres in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi, where coordinated attacks on multiple communities resulted in approximately 200 deaths and over 500 injuries.
Governor Muftwang has called for increased federal support to address the security challenges, highlighting the need for a comprehensive strategy to reclaim the affected communities and prevent further loss of life and property.
