Elon Musk Critiques Navarro's Tesla Manufacturing Claims

Musk Calls Out Trump Advisor Navarro on Tesla Misconceptions

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has publicly criticized Peter Navarro, President Donald Trump’s trade adviser, following comments Navarro made about Tesla’s manufacturing practices. Navarro referred to Musk as “not a car manufacturer” but “a car assembler,” suggesting that Tesla relies heavily on imported components from countries like Japan, China, and Taiwan.

In response, Musk took to social media platform X, stating:

“Navarro is truly a moron. What he says here is demonstrably false. Tesla has the most American-made cars. Navarro is dumber than a sack of bricks.”

Musk further emphasized Tesla’s high degree of vertical integration and the substantial American content in its vehicles. He also referenced “Ron Vara,” a fictional expert Navarro had previously cited in his writings, to question Navarro’s credibility.

The exchange highlights ongoing tensions regarding the Trump administration’s tariff policies. Musk has been an advocate for zero tariffs and free trade between the U.S. and Europe, arguing that such measures would benefit complex supply chains and the broader economy. In contrast, Navarro has been a key proponent of imposing tariffs to encourage domestic manufacturing.

When asked about the public dispute, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the incident, remarking:

“These are obviously two individuals who have very different views on trade and on tariffs. Boys will be boys, and we will let their public sparring continue.”
