Cape Town Court: State Witness Fatally Shot During Hearing

​A state witness was fatally shot inside the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town on April 8, 2025. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.

The assailant approached the victim in the court’s lobby, fired several shots, and then fled the scene. The motive for the attack is currently under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

The incident has raised concerns about security measures within judicial facilities. The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr. Xola Nqola, expressed shock over the killing and emphasized the need for enhanced security to protect individuals within court premises.
