No Apology: Nigeria Clarifies Super Eagles Situation
The Nigerian government has denied claims that it apologized to Libya over the detention of the Super Eagles at a Libyan airport.
This clarification came after reports in Libyan media suggested that Nigeria had offered an apology.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the incident was discussed diplomatically, but no apology was issued.
Instead, Nigeria expressed displeasure with how the Super Eagles were treated during their time in Libya.
The misunderstanding stemmed from a phone conversation between Nigeria’s Foreign Minister and the Foreign Minister of the Eastern Libyan Government, but Nigeria maintained that it did not apologize or regret the treatment of Libyan officials as reported.
The matter is being addressed diplomatically, and Nigeria is urging the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to investigate the incident.
