Buhari: No Change in Assets After Presidency

Buhari’s Statement on Personal Assets Post-Presidency

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he left office in 2023 with the same physical assets he possessed before assuming the presidency in 2015. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing citizens’ welfare over personal interests. Additionally, Buhari expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for renovating his private residence in Kaduna, noting significant interior improvements while the exterior remained largely unchanged.

During a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at his Kaduna residence, Buhari reflected on his tenure, highlighting his commitment to public service and the party’s core principles. He encouraged leaders to focus on the well-being of the populace, reinforcing his belief in citizen-centric governance.

These remarks align with Buhari’s previous asset declarations, where he reported possessing N30 million, five houses, two undeveloped plots of land, farms, an orchard, a ranch, livestock—including 270 cattle, 35 sheep, and five horses—and various economic trees. He maintained that there were no significant changes to his assets during his presidency.

In September 2015, shortly after assuming office, Buhari publicly declared his assets, emphasizing transparency. In his 2019 declaration, he stated that while there were some changes, they were not significant, reiterating that no new houses, bank accounts, or shares had been acquired.
