Lucy Markovic, the Australian model who gained prominence as the runner-up on Australia’s Next Top Model in 2015, has passed away at the age of 27. Her death was due to complications from an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a rare brain condition characterized by tangled blood vessels that disrupt normal blood flow and oxygen delivery to the brain.
Markovic had been open about her diagnosis, revealing on social media that she was scheduled for surgery to treat the AVM, which she described as being “the size of a golf ball.” Despite undergoing the procedure on April 2, she succumbed to the illness days later, surrounded by her loved ones .
Following her appearance on Australia’s Next Top Model, Markovic built a successful international modeling career. She worked with esteemed fashion houses such as Versace, Armani, Victoria Beckham, and Oscar de la Renta, and graced the pages of prominent magazines including Vogue and Marie Claire .
Tributes have poured in from the fashion community. Elite Model Management, her agency, described her as a “bright shining light” and praised her elegance, strength, and warmth. Donatella Versace also expressed her condolences, sharing an image of Markovic modeling for the brand and stating, “Rest in peace darling girl” .
