U.S. Deploys Warships: Venezuela’s Leader Vows Retaliation
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has issued a stern warning in response to the deployment of U.S. warships near his country, vowing retaliation if Venezuela is attacked.
He described the naval buildup as the most serious threat the continent has faced in a century and accused the United States, under former President Donald Trump, of plotting regime change in Caracas.According to Maduro, the U.S. has sent eight military vessels equipped with over a thousand missiles, backed by a submarine, toward Venezuela’s waters.
He argued that Washington’s claim of targeting drug trafficking operations was a cover for a deeper political agenda. In a televised speech, he declared a state of maximum preparedness and said Venezuela would transform into a “republic in arms” if any military strike was launched.
The U.S. Navy deployment includes missile destroyers, an amphibious assault ship carrying thousands of Marines, and other advanced war assets. American officials insist the move is part of a broader campaign against Latin American cartels. Maduro, however, dismissed this reasoning and insisted that the true goal is to destabilize and replace his government.
In response to the threat, the Venezuelan government has mobilized troops, called up millions of civilian militia members, and placed border forces on alert. Citizens were urged to stand ready to defend the nation’s sovereignty. Venezuela’s Foreign Minister further rejected U.S. accusations of being a major drug hub, citing international data showing most cocaine routes pass through the Pacific rather than Venezuelan territory.
The standoff highlights the deepening tension between Washington and Caracas. While the United States frames its actions as a security mission, Venezuela sees it as an act of aggression and a direct violation of its sovereignty. Maduro’s threats of armed resistance raise the stakes in what is quickly becoming one of the most volatile flashpoints in the region.
