NUPENG strike against Dangote
Fuel marketers have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the standoff between the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Dangote Group to prevent a planned nationwide strike on Monday.
The marketers warned that the industrial action could cripple the distribution of petroleum products, worsen fuel scarcity, and trigger a fresh wave of inflation across the country. They called on the Federal Government to facilitate dialogue between the union and management of the Dangote Refinery and Petroleum Company to address lingering disputes over workers’ welfare and union recognition.
NUPENG had earlier accused the Dangote Group of engaging in anti-union practices, which it described as “modern-day slavery,” insisting that the strike would proceed unless their demands were met.
Industry stakeholders fear that a shutdown in operations could disrupt supply chains at a time when Nigerians are grappling with high energy costs and economic hardship.
Efforts by labour leaders and government representatives to mediate are ongoing, but fuel marketers insist that swift presidential intervention remains the only viable solution to avert a nationwide crisis.
