Dangote UNILORIN hostel project
Africa’s richest man and industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has taken over the completion of the N1.1 billion hostel project initiated by the Ilorin Central Mosque for the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).
The project, which had stalled for several years due to lack of funds, was originally conceived to provide quality accommodation for students and ease the burden of overcrowded hostels on campus.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Ilorin, representatives of the Ilorin Central Mosque said Dangote’s intervention was a significant relief that would ensure the timely completion of the hostel. They described the gesture as a major contribution to education and student welfare in Kwara State.
In his remarks, Dangote assured stakeholders of his commitment to supporting projects that enhance education and youth development. He noted that affordable housing for students is critical to academic success and pledged to deliver the facility to standard.
The hostel, when completed, is expected to accommodate thousands of students and reduce the pressure on private rentals around the university. Community leaders and students have welcomed the development, hailing Dangote’s philanthropy as an inspiration for other wealthy Nigerians.
