Lagos Trade Fair demolition 2025
The Lagos State Government has commenced the demolition of illegal buildings and shanties at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex along the Badagry Expressway.
Officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development said the exercise is part of the government’s ongoing campaign to restore order and ensure safety at major commercial hubs in the state.
According to authorities, the affected structures were erected without approval, contravening urban planning regulations and posing safety risks to traders and visitors.
“This demolition is not to witch-hunt anyone but to ensure compliance with Lagos master plan,” a government official stated.
Traders and occupants were earlier given notices to vacate before the operation began. However, some business owners have expressed concerns over loss of investments and livelihoods, urging the state to provide alternative arrangements.
Urban analysts say the move reflects Lagos’ tough stance against illegal developments but stress the need for inclusive urban renewal policies that balance regulation with the welfare of small business owners.
