Atiku Obi coalition 2027 presidency
A political coalition pushing for unity ahead of the 2027 presidential election has demanded that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi commit fully by becoming registered members of the alliance.
The coalition, made up of opposition stakeholders, insists that only full membership will guarantee a formidable front against the ruling party, while also ending speculations about the duo’s political loyalty.
Speaking after a closed-door strategy session in Abuja, coalition leaders stressed that Nigeria needs a united opposition movement to challenge the status quo.
“We welcome Atiku and Obi’s interest, but symbolic gestures are not enough. Nigerians must see their full commitment to this coalition,” one of the conveners stated.
The demand comes amid growing debates about whether the two leaders, who both contested in the 2023 polls, can bury their differences and work together ahead of 2027.
Political analysts argue that while the idea of a joint opposition ticket is popular among some Nigerians, ego clashes, party structures, and regional politics could make it difficult to achieve.
Observers say the coalition’s insistence on membership may determine whether Atiku and Obi can be trusted as central figures in a broader political movement.
