Ned Nwoko blames Regina Daniels outburst on drug abuse
Senator Ned Nwoko, businessman and husband of popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his wife’s recent emotional outburst on social media — attributing her behaviour to drug abuse and external influence.
In a statement released through his media office on Tuesday, Nwoko said he decided to speak publicly after “misleading reports” about the couple’s relationship began circulating online, insisting that Regina’s recent conduct was “out of character and medically influenced.”
“Regina has been going through a difficult period, and it is unfortunate that certain individuals around her introduced her to substances that have affected her emotional stability,” the senator said. “This is not the Regina I married. She is a wonderful wife and mother, and we are working with professionals to help her recover fully.”
Background to the controversy
Regina Daniels recently sparked concern among fans after she posted a series of disturbing videos and messages on her social media accounts, accusing her husband of neglect and emotional manipulation. The posts, which have since been deleted, trended widely, prompting speculation about a marital crisis.
Sources close to the family claimed that Regina had been under “immense pressure” from online trolls and certain friends who “encouraged erratic behaviour for social media attention.”
Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, said the matter was being handled privately, urging the public to “refrain from spreading rumours or mocking someone who is clearly in distress.”
Family’s response and next steps
The lawmaker revealed that the family has engaged medical experts to assist Regina’s recovery and help her overcome dependency issues.
“We are focused on her health and well-being. She is surrounded by family, and we will get through this together,” he said, adding that his family “remains united” despite the viral controversy.
Meanwhile, close associates of the actress have urged the public to offer prayers and understanding rather than judgment. One family source disclosed that Regina “is currently receiving therapy and showing signs of improvement.”
Public reactions
The senator’s statement has triggered mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians commended him for handling the situation with “maturity and empathy,” others accused him of trying to “control the narrative” around Regina’s personal struggles.
Observers note that this is the first time Nwoko has publicly addressed an issue involving his young wife since their high-profile marriage in 2019.
