Nigeria Stranded in Libya: AFCON Match Canceled
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a demand for Libya to provide an explanation regarding the cancellation of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria.
The match, originally scheduled for mid-October 2024, was called off after Nigeria’s Super Eagles reportedly endured inhumane treatment upon their arrival in Libya, including being stranded at the airport for over 14 hours.
In response, Nigeria withdrew from the fixture, and CAF delisted the match from its schedule.
This situation has escalated tensions, especially as Libya is under pressure, compounded by internal crises within their football federation, including the recent resignation of its president.
CAF is now awaiting further details from Libya on the events leading to the cancellation and could take further action based on their investigation.
