Allegations of Military Oil Bunkering in Nigeria’s Niger Delta
Former militant leader Mujahid Asari Dokubo recently reaffirmed his accusation that the Nigerian military, specifically the Army and Navy, are behind the majority of oil theft activities in the Niger Delta.
After a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Asari claimed that military personnel are involved in 99% of the oil bunkering operations in the region.
He emphasized that the technology and resources required for such large-scale theft cannot be managed by ordinary civilians without military involvement.
Asari also stated that he was asked by the president to address the media and that he used the opportunity to expose these alleged activities.
He expressed hope that the Tinubu administration would take decisive action to curtail the problem, vowing his own support to reduce oil theft to zero in collaboration with government efforts.
