A new global study has found that exposure to certain plastic chemicals may be linked to approximately two million premature births and about 74,000 newborn deaths worldwide in a single year.
Researchers behind the study say the findings highlight growing concerns about the health impact of chemicals commonly found in plastics, particularly substances known as phthalates. These chemicals are widely used to make plastics more flexible and durable and are present in everyday items such as food packaging, medical equipment, cosmetics, toys, and household products.
