Judiciary and National Assembly: A Critique by Pat Utomi
Pat Utomi, a prominent Nigerian economist and political figure, has strongly criticized the current state of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu, particularly focusing on the capture of key institutions like the National Assembly and the judiciary.
Utomi described the judiciary as a “laughing stock” and argued that it has lost credibility, which undermines Nigeria’s progress.
He believes that without strong institutions, such as a reliable judiciary and electoral body, the country cannot make meaningful progress.
Furthermore, Utomi claimed that the current political system is dominated by a “criminal enterprise,” where citizens have lost faith in democratic processes, and institutions like INEC are perceived as weak or compromised.
Utomi also critiqued Tinubu for exacerbating Nigeria’s problems by implementing ill-thought-out policies that worsen the nation’s existing challenges, including the fuel subsidy removal.
He lamented that, despite raising alarms in the past about Nigeria’s declining state, Tinubu remained silent during Buhari’s administration and did little to avert the current crisis.
