NBA YoungBoy Mentioned in Alleged Lil Durk Texts as OTF Vonni Testifies in Trial
NBA YoungBoy was mentioned in an alleged text message attributed to Lil Durk during the rapper’s federal murder-for-hire trial, as OTF Vonni continued his testimony in court.
The reference emerged Tuesday, September 1, while Vonni, whose legal name is Kavon Grant, was questioned about an alleged group chat involving Durk and members of his Only The Family collective.
According to courtroom reporting, the messages were presented as evidence of Durk’s frustration with members of his circle following the 2020 killing of King Von.
Prosecutors allege that Durk later became involved in a plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo. Durk has pleaded not guilty and has denied the government’s allegations.
NBA YoungBoy Mentioned in Courtroom Text
During Vonni’s testimony, prosecutors presented an alleged message in which Durk appeared to compare the situation involving Quando Rondo with the longstanding conflict involving NBA YoungBoy.
The message reportedly complained about OTF members being hesitant to retaliate.
“Let it be YB and nem,” the alleged message read, according to courtroom coverage.
The message then referred to having information about a target’s location and suggested that members of the group were not acting with enough urgency.
The reference to YoungBoy is significant because the two rappers have been associated with a highly publicized feud for years.
However, the appearance of YoungBoy’s name in the alleged message does not mean that he was involved in the alleged murder-for-hire plot at the center of Durk’s trial.
OTF Vonni Describes Alleged Retaliation Efforts
Vonni also testified about events following King Von’s death in November 2020.
According to his testimony, conversations about locating Quando Rondo began shortly after Von’s killing. Prosecutors have argued that those discussions eventually developed into efforts to retaliate against Rondo.
Complex reported that Vonni described alleged messages in which Durk expressed anger that members of his circle had not taken action following Von’s death.
The government’s case centers on the August 2022 shooting in Los Angeles that killed Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, Rondo’s cousin. Rondo survived the attack.
Prosecutors allege that Durk financed and helped orchestrate an attempt to kill Rondo as retaliation for Von’s death.
The defense disputes that account and has argued that Durk was not responsible for the shooting.
The Trial Has Featured Several OTF Witnesses
Vonni is one of several people connected to OTF who have testified for the prosecution.
OTF Jam previously took the stand and provided testimony that prosecutors said connected Durk to the alleged scheme. Another witness, Flacka, has also testified during the trial.
The prosecution’s use of cooperating witnesses has become one of the central features of the case.
The defense has challenged the credibility and motivations of those witnesses. Questions about their own potential legal exposure and agreements with prosecutors have been important areas of cross-examination.
YoungBoy’s Name Adds Another Layer to Longstanding Feud
NBA YoungBoy’s mention in the alleged message also highlights the history surrounding the case.
The rivalry between YoungBoy and Durk became particularly intense after King Von’s death. Fans on both sides frequently debated the conflict online, while references to the feud appeared in songs, interviews and social-media posts.
That history has now become part of the broader narrative surrounding Durk’s trial.
Still, courtroom evidence must be considered carefully. A reference to YoungBoy in an alleged private message is not proof that he participated in any crime or knew about the alleged plans described by prosecutors.
As OTF Vonni’s testimony continues, the jury is being asked to determine how much weight to give the evidence and testimony presented by the government.
The prosecution is expected to conclude its case soon, after which Durk’s defense will have an opportunity to present its own evidence and challenge the government’s allegations.
The trial remains ongoing, and no final verdict has been reached.
