Chadwick Boseman’s Widow Hits Back at Brothers’ Petition to Remove Her as Estate Administrator
Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, has pushed back against a legal petition filed by the late actor’s brothers seeking to remove her as administrator of his estate.
The dispute has placed Boseman’s family finances and legacy back in the spotlight nearly six years after the Black Panther star died.
Derrick Boseman and Kevin Boseman filed a petition in a Los Angeles court seeking Ledward’s removal. They have alleged that she failed to fully distribute assets belonging to their parents and have requested a detailed accounting of the estate.
Brothers Challenge Estate Management
According to the brothers’ petition, Chadwick Boseman died without a will in 2020. Under the arrangement described in the court filings, Ledward inherited 50% of his estate, while Boseman’s parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, were entitled to 25% each.
They have also raised questions about assets connected to Boseman’s movie royalties and residuals, image and intellectual property rights, investments, insurance policies, bank accounts and other property.
The petition asks the court to require Ledward to provide a full accounting and to remove her from her position as administrator.
Widow Rejects Allegations
Ledward has now responded to the allegations through new court documents.
Her legal team rejected the brothers’ claims and argued that she complied with the court’s instructions. Her lawyers also described the petition as an attempt to damage her reputation publicly.
She also disputed the suggestion that she had failed to act in accordance with Chadwick’s wishes.
Ledward Says She Gave Boseman’s Parents More Than $1.7 Million
One of the most significant claims in Ledward’s response concerns financial support she says she provided to Boseman’s parents.
According to court documents reported by TMZ, Ledward says she has paid more than $1.7 million to Leroy and Carolyn Boseman since 2022.
She reportedly said the payments included $1.5 million in May 2023, another $260,000 later that year and more than $4,000 in December 2024.
Ledward also said she voluntarily gave $300,000 of her own money to Derrick Boseman’s children.
Those claims form part of her argument that she has acted generously toward the Boseman family rather than withholding assets from them.
Dispute Over Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy
The legal disagreement involves more than money. The court filings also refer to Boseman’s intellectual property, royalties, residuals and the management of his name and image.
They have said they brought the case on behalf of their parents, who they say want clarity concerning matters involving their son’s estate and legacy.
Ledward, meanwhile, maintains that she has followed the relevant court orders and acted in a way consistent with Boseman’s wishes.
Chadwick Boseman’s Lasting Legacy
Boseman died on August 28, 2020, at age 43 after privately battling colon cancer. He became internationally known for portraying King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther and appeared in films including 42, Da 5 Bloods and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
He married Ledward in 2020, shortly before his death.
The latest legal dispute remains unresolved, and the allegations made by either side have not been established as findings of wrongdoing.
