Georgia Releases Oklahoma Game Trailer
The Georgia Bulldogs released a new football game trailer titled “For the Love of the Game” ahead of their highly anticipated matchup with the Oklahoma Sooners.
The University of Georgia Athletics department published the trailer on September 25, one day before the Bulldogs hosted Oklahoma at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens.
The video was presented by Piedmont Healthcare as part of Georgia’s preparations for the latest SEC matchup.
The trailer was designed to build excitement around the meeting and highlight the emotions surrounding college football in Athens.
Bulldogs Prepare for Oklahoma
Georgia entered the matchup ranked No. 2 nationally and carrying a 3-0 record.
The Bulldogs had also opened SEC play with a 45-17 victory over Arkansas on September 19.
Oklahoma entered the game with a 2-1 record and was preparing for its first SEC game of the season.
The matchup marked only the second meeting between the two programs.
Georgia won the previous meeting, defeating Oklahoma 54-48 in double overtime in the 2018 College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
That memorable game featured several future NFL stars, including Georgia running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel and Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield.
“For the Love of the Game”
The title of Georgia’s latest trailer reflects the passion surrounding the Bulldogs’ football program.
The promotional video was released as the team prepared for another major SEC contest in front of its home crowd.
Georgia also used the 2018 Rose Bowl meeting as part of the buildup to the Oklahoma game.
According to Sports Illustrated, former Georgia running back Sony Michel provided the voice for the Bulldogs’ hype film. Michel scored the decisive touchdown in the second overtime of Georgia’s 54-48 victory over Oklahoma in 2018.
Kirby Smart and Georgia’s Strong Start
Head coach Kirby Smart’s team entered the Oklahoma game after a dominant opening stretch.
Georgia defeated Tennessee State 63-3 in its season opener before beating Western Kentucky 70-20.
The Bulldogs then defeated Arkansas 45-17 on the road.
Before facing Oklahoma, Georgia was averaging 59.3 points per game and had scored at least 40 points in each of its first three games.
Quarterback Gunner Stockton had also produced a strong start to the season. Through three games, he had completed 38 of 45 passes for 583 yards, with nine touchdown passes and no interceptions.
Oklahoma Provides Another SEC Test
The Oklahoma matchup represented another test for Georgia as the Bulldogs continued their SEC schedule.
The Sooners entered the contest with one of the conference’s strongest defenses. Before the game, Oklahoma was allowing only 7.7 points per game.
Georgia, meanwhile, had allowed 13.3 points per game through its first three contests.
The contrast between Georgia’s high-scoring offense and Oklahoma’s defense added another storyline to the matchup.
Georgia-Oklahoma Game Day
The game was scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time on September 26 at Sanford Stadium.
Georgia’s official game notes described the contest as part of the “SEC Gauntlet” facing the two-time defending SEC champions.
The trailer gave Georgia fans a final piece of buildup before kickoff, celebrating the traditions, players and emotions surrounding football at the University of Georgia.
With the teams meeting again after their memorable 2018 playoff encounter, the Oklahoma game carried both SEC significance and a connection to one of the most notable games in recent Georgia football history.
