Many passengers in Benue State were injured after a commercial bus reportedly plunged into a stream, exacerbating ongoing transport challenges in the region.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 4pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Mbagwa, the Kwande Local Government Area of the state.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident said all occupants of the vehicle were rescued by passersby.
A source disclosed that the driver of the commercial vehicle heading to Ikyogen, suddenly lost control and skidded off the road into the nearby stream.
Due to recent floods, critical roads and bridges in Benue have been damaged or submerged, stranding numerous travelers.
Among the worst affected are the Gboko/Ugbema/Katsina-Ala and Gboko/Lessel/Vandeikya roads, key routes linking the area with other parts of Nigeria.
These routes have faced severe flooding, cutting off access for days and forcing travelers to seek alternative paths through flooded villages and even residential areas as local communities attempt to provide temporary relief.
