Reps Call for Relocation of INEC LG Offices to Safeguard Elections
The Nigerian House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to relocate its local government offices to more secure and politically neutral locations.
This decision, supported by the majority of lawmakers, follows concerns that many INEC offices are situated near area council headquarters, potentially compromising electoral impartiality.
The move aims to uphold INEC’s independence, especially in areas dominated by single-party control.
INEC is now tasked with accommodating this in its 2025 budget proposal, with oversight by relevant committees.
