Nigerian Universities Face Crisis: ASUU Issues Warning
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned Nigerians to hold the Federal Government responsible if it embarks on another strike.
According to Raphael Amokaha, ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator for the Nsukka Zone, the union has exhausted all possible avenues to resolve its longstanding grievances with the government, including the non-implementation of agreements related to university funding, payment of earned allowances, and salary issues.
Despite efforts to avoid disruptions through negotiations and protests, the government has failed to address these concerns.
ASUU also pointed out that university workers have not had a salary review in over 15 years, which is one of the many unresolved issues.
The union emphasized that any future industrial action would be a result of the government’s continued neglect and insincerity in resolving the critical challenges facing the Nigerian university system.
