Marco Curto’s 10-Match Ban: A Stand Against Racism
Marco Curto, an Italian footballer who was playing for Como at the time, has been handed a 10-match ban by FIFA for racially abusing Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan during a pre-season friendly in July 2024.
The incident occurred during a match in Marbella, where Curto allegedly made a racially insensitive remark, referring to Hwang as “Jackie Chan.”This resulted in FIFA issuing a ban, with half of the matches suspended for two years, conditional on good behavior.
Along with the suspension, Curto is also required to participate in community service and undergo educational training to address his discriminatory behavior.
While Como initially claimed that the remark had been misunderstood, Wolverhampton Wanderers filed an official complaint, emphasizing their commitment to fighting racism in football.
The punishment was welcomed by Wolves and other football authorities, who highlighted it as a strong message against racism in the sport
