Understanding the NCAA’s New $170, N10,000 Fines for Delayed Baggage
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has introduced new regulations to address luggage delays, providing clearer compensation guidelines for affected passengers.
Airlines are now required to compensate passengers with ₦10,000 for domestic flights and $170 for international flights as “first needs” compensation while searching for delayed luggage.
The search period is up to 7 days for domestic flights and 21 days for international ones.
If the luggage is declared missing beyond these timeframes, airlines must begin the process for further compensation.
Additionally, passengers are entitled to ticket refunds for canceled or significantly delayed flights. Refunds must be processed immediately for cash payments or within 14 days for other payment methods.
Airlines may face fines of up to ₦5 million for non-compliance with these rules.
