Explore the Impact of Wike’s N70,000 Minimum Wage Approval for FCT Employees
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has approved the implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage for all staff under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The new wage, which takes effect immediately, includes three months of arrears to be paid starting November 2024.
This decision aligns with the national minimum wage increase signed into law by President Bola Tinubu earlier this year.
The measure is part of efforts to improve workers’ welfare and avoid unrest, as FCT labor unions had threatened a strike over the delay in implementing the new wage policy.
The Acting Head of Civil Service for the FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, commended the move, emphasizing its significance in advancing the administration’s goals under President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”.
