Ebonyi Violence: Labourer Dead, Three Civilians Injured in Police-Soldier Dispute
A tragic incident occurred in Ugwuachara village, Ebonyi State, when a labourer was fatally struck by a stray bullet during a clash between a soldier and police officers conducting a stop-and-search operation.
The confrontation began when the police attempted to search a soldier in plainclothes who was riding a motorcycle.
A scuffle ensued, during which the soldier allegedly tried to disarm one of the officers. This led to an accidental discharge that hit the bystander.
Three other civilians were injured and are currently receiving treatment. Both the soldier and the officers involved are now in custody as investigations continue.
The deceased was not the intended target, according to the police.
