Bode George Advises Atiku: Time to Step Back from Presidential Ambitions
Former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Bode George, has advised Atiku Abubakar to refrain from contesting for the presidency in 2027.
George suggested that Atiku, who will be 81 years old by the next election, should focus on mentoring younger politicians instead of pursuing another campaign.
He also emphasized the need for the PDP to adhere to zoning principles, arguing that the presidency should return to the South after eight years under the North.
George likened Atiku’s situation to that of U.S. President Joe Biden, who stepped aside for younger leadership within his party. He also criticized the idea of a “mega party” and advocated for strengthening the PDP instead.
In response, Atiku dismissed the suggestion, stating that his focus is on addressing Nigeria’s current challenges rather than planning for 2027.
He criticized the administration of President Tinubu for worsening the country’s economic and social conditions and urged George to direct his counsel toward resolving these issues instead of discussing future elections.
