Gunmen have abducted four students near the Federal University, Dutsinma, in Katsina State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, March 2, 2025, when armed bandits stormed Paris Quarters, located behind the university, and took the students hostage.
As of March 3, one of the abducted students has been rescued, while the remaining three are still missing. Security operatives are actively working to secure their release.
This abduction is part of a troubling pattern of student kidnappings in Nigeria. In December 2020, over 300 students were kidnapped from a school in Kankara, Katsina State. More recently, in February 2025, four female students were abducted from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, Benue State.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned these acts and called on the government to enhance security measures on university campuses to protect students.
