On December 18, 2024, at approximately 11:43 PM, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that its 330kV Shiroro-Katampe transmission line was vandalized. The incident led to a power outage in parts of Abuja, as the line supplies electricity to the capital.
TCN’s investigation revealed that vandals had stolen a section of the conductor between towers T216 and T218. Maintenance crews have been dispatched to replace the damaged conductor, with restoration efforts underway.
TCN has appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities around power transmission infrastructure to prevent such acts of vandalism.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges Nigeria faces with infrastructure security, as vandalism of critical power lines continues to disrupt electricity supply and impede efforts to stabilize the national grid.
