President Bola Tinubu has introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a more affordable fuel alternative to petrol, offering Nigerians the choice between purchasing petrol at around N1,000 per liter or CNG at just N200 per standard cubic meter.
This initiative is part of his government’s effort to reduce the cost of living following the removal of the petrol subsidy, which has led to a significant rise in petrol prices.
In addition to making CNG available at a lower cost, the government has launched a program to distribute one million free CNG conversion kits over the next 18 months to help commercial vehicle operators switch from petrol to gas.
This move is designed to encourage the use of cleaner and cheaper fuel, which will reduce the financial burden on consumers and contribute to environmental sustainability.
