Akwa Ibom Police Shut Down Illegal Maternity Home

Pregnant Women and Infants Rescued in Akwa Ibom Raid

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered an illegal maternity home in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area, allegedly involved in child trafficking, unlawful medical practices, and impersonation. Acting on credible intelligence, officers arrested a woman identified as Patience Ene Jimmy, who was found harboring seven pregnant women and five infants aged between two weeks and one year.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of various medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records, for which the suspect had no legal authorization.

The rescued women and infants have been placed under protective care, while investigations are ongoing to uncover other collaborators and ensure justice is served. The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reiterated the Command’s commitment to dismantling illegal activities endangering vulnerable individuals and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

For credible information, the public is encouraged to contact the Command’s emergency lines: 09040000065 or 08020913810.
