Akwa Ibom Women Protest Against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Akwa Ibom Protests: Voices Against Allegations and Harassment

On March 1, 2025, women in Akwa Ibom State organized a protest in Uyo, the state capital, expressing their support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio and denouncing the sexual harassment allegations made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The protesters, comprising dozens of women, marched through major streets, carrying placards with messages such as “Leave our son alone” and “Akpabio is innocent.” They condemned Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations, labeling them as unfounded and an attempt to tarnish Akpabio’s reputation.

This demonstration follows Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent allegations during an interview on Arise Television, where she accused Akpabio of sexual harassment. The accusation has sparked significant controversy, leading to public debates and reactions from various groups.

In response to the allegations, Akpabio’s wife has filed a defamation lawsuit against Akpoti-Uduaghan, seeking ₦250 billion in damages. The legal action underscores the seriousness with which the Akpabio family is addressing the claims.

The protest by Akwa Ibom women highlights the regional support for Akpabio and reflects the deepening divisions over the allegations.
