Rivers State Tragedy: Vigilante Member Killed by Suspected Cultists

A tragic incident occurred on January 14, 2025, in Ahoada town, Rivers State, where a local vigilante member, identified as Precious, was brutally murdered by suspected cultists.

The attack took place along Hospital Road in Ahoada East Local Government Area during a routine patrol. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants initially fired gunshots at Precious, but when the bullets appeared ineffective, they resorted to using sticks, iron rods, and other dangerous objects to bludgeon him to death.

This incident has heightened tension in the area, prompting many residents to flee their homes due to fear of reprisal attacks. Notably, neither of the rival cult groups, Iceland or Greenland, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators. The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed the Area Commander and tactical units to ensure that the culprits are arrested and brought to justice.
