The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a lawsuit that seeks to compel the Federal Government to investigate the alleged ties between Bello Matawalle, the former Governor of Zamfara State and current Minister of State for Defence, and banditry in Zamfara State.
The suit was filed by a human rights activist, Abubakar Dahiru, who claims that under Matawalle’s governorship (2019-2023), banditry escalated in the state. The lawsuit cites allegations that Matawalle was involved with sponsoring bandits, providing vehicles to them, and sabotaging law enforcement efforts aimed at curbing banditry(
The case stems from public accusations, including statements made by the current Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal, linking Matawalle to banditry and kidnapping activities.
Despite these accusations, the plaintiff argues that no official investigation has been conducted to ascertain the truth. The court has not yet set a date for the hearing.
