The Anambra State Police Command has intensified efforts to rescue Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, who was abducted on December 24, 2024. Azuka was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen along Ugwunapampa Road in Onitsha while returning home.
In a recent development, police operatives attached to the Inland Town Division have recovered the lawmaker’s vehicle, which was found abandoned at Upper Iweka Road during the ongoing rescue operation. Despite this progress, Azuka’s whereabouts remain unknown, and the kidnappers have yet to contact his family.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed the deployed team to intensify efforts to secure the lawmaker’s release.
The abduction has heightened concerns among residents, who question the effectiveness of numerous security checkpoints in the area. This incident is particularly alarming, recalling the 2022 abduction and subsequent murder of Okechukwu Okoye, another Anambra State lawmaker.
