Justice Azuka, the Anambra State lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, was laid to rest on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Onitsha while returning home for Christmas. His decomposing body was discovered near the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.
The funeral mass, held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Onitsha, was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Somtochukwu Udeze, and other members of the Assembly. Governor Soludo pledged that the perpetrators of this heinous act would be brought to justice.
Azuka, a chieftain of the Labour Party, had reclaimed his mandate after a court ruling nullified the victory of the previous officeholder from the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election.
This tragic incident marks the second time in recent years that a sitting Anambra lawmaker has been kidnapped and murdered, following the death of Okechukwu Okoye in 2022.
