The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of impersonating police officers and engaging in cult activities.
The primary suspect, 50-year-old Chidi Ekwesiri from Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area, was apprehended during a surveillance patrol along the Onitsha – Enugu Expressway near UNIZIK’s Temporary Site in Awka. Initially, Ekwesiri claimed to be a serving police sergeant from Lagos but later retracted this statement.
Further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed.
Authorities recovered an automatic pump-action gun and a police uniform from the suspects. Ekwesiri confessed that the firearm was provided by an unidentified individual in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for comprehensive investigation. The suspects are expected to face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
