APC Takes Aim at El-Rufai Over Ministerial Snub

​The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, alleging that his recent departure from the party stems from personal grievances related to his unsuccessful bid for a ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a recent BBC Hausa interview, El-Rufai accused the APC of straying from its founding progressive ideals, asserting that the party now prioritizes personal interests over national development. He expressed disappointment in President Tinubu’s leadership, stating that despite their support during the election, the administration has failed to meet expectations.

Responding to these claims, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, issued a statement describing El-Rufai’s allegations as a façade to mask his personal dissatisfaction over not securing a ministerial role. Morka characterized El-Rufai as “the epitome of a self-interested politician, blinded by ego, driven by untamed emotion, and brimming with a vengeful desire to ‘collapse the system.'”

The APC also questioned El-Rufai’s decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), challenging the notion that the SDP aligns with the progressive values he claims to uphold. The party dismissed his call for opposition figures to unite under the SDP as an invitation “to drink from a chalice poisoned by selfishness, vengefulness, and delusion of grandeur.”

Defending President Tinubu’s administration, the APC highlighted achievements such as the removal of fuel subsidies, exchange rate unification, and increased foreign investment. The party labeled El-Rufai’s assertion that Tinubu has failed as “outrageous” and a “gross distortion of the reality on the ground,” emphasizing that Nigerians are witnessing tangible progress across various sectors.
