In a tragic incident on Friday, February 7, 2025, 42-year-old e-hailing driver Yusfat Olawale Ayinde was fatally attacked by unidentified assailants in Lagos State. According to reports, Ayinde accepted a ride request through an e-hailing app and, upon arriving at the designated location, was ambushed by a group of individuals who stabbed him and fled with his vehicle. His body was later discovered along Agidingbi Road in Ikeja and subsequently taken to the morgue.
The Lagos State chapter of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has expressed deep concern over the safety of e-hailing drivers following this incident. The union’s chairman, Jaiyesinmi Azeez, emphasized the need for enhanced security measures and revealed that the union’s task force is collaborating with Ayinde’s family and relevant authorities to gather evidence, identify the app used for the ride request, and track down the perpetrators.
