Arsenal have completed their first transfer of the January window by selling 20-year-old defender Josh Robinson to Wigan Athletic.
Robinson, who can play both right-back and center-back, joined Arsenal as a schoolboy and progressed through the ranks, signing his first professional contract in 2023. He was a regular for Arsenal’s U21s this season and had been named on the bench for the first team in several Champions League matches.
Wigan Athletic announced that Robinson has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club.
This move marks an opportunity for Robinson to gain regular first-team experience in a competitive environment.
This transfer is part of Arsenal’s ongoing strategy to develop young talent and make decisions that benefit the players’ careers and the club’s long-term plans.
Robinson’s departure follows several other academy players who have moved on to seek first-team opportunities elsewhere.
