Authorities Nab Woman for Assisting Armed Robbers

Woman’s Home Linked to Armed Robbery Release Scheme

In Zimbabwe, authorities have arrested 49-year-old Theresa Chenjerai on charges of bribery and harboring criminals. Chenjerai is accused of collaborating with Munyaradzi Zakkaria to offer a $150 bribe to a detective, aiming to secure favorable testimony for their associate, Nickson Tapuwa Mazaranye, who faces 15 counts of armed robbery at the Norton Magistrates Court.

Investigations reveal that Chenjerai is married to Andrew Chenjerai, a suspected armed robber currently out on bail for two violent crime charges. Authorities allege that she facilitated his release and provided refuge to Zakkaria after his release, raising concerns about her assembling a criminal network capable of organized crime.

Both Chenjerai and Zakkaria appeared before a Norton magistrate on March 1 and were remanded in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for March 3. Authorities are pushing for their continued detention, citing the potential to interfere with ongoing investigations and obstruct justice.
