Babysitter Arrested for Stabbing 3-Year-Old Girl

Tragic Incident: Babysitter Stabs Toddler While Dad Works

​A tragic incident occurred in Las Vegas on March 26, 2025, involving the fatal stabbing of a 3-year-old girl, allegedly by her babysitter, 41-year-old Marketta Phillips. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a stabbing report at approximately 3:36 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the young victim suffering from multiple stab wounds; she was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Phillips, who had been babysitting the child while her father was at work, was apprehended near the scene and taken into custody without incident. The victim’s father reported discovering Phillips in the kitchen, covered in blood and surrounded by knives. Investigators also found notes at the scene with messages suggesting personal grievances, including one that read, “See what happens when you [mess] with people’s lives.”

Phillips has been charged with open murder with a deadly weapon and is currently held at the Clark County Detention Center. Her initial court appearance took place on March 27, with the next hearing scheduled for April 1.
