Nigeria’s $8.8M Electricity Debt from Benin and Togo

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that Benin Republic and Togo owe Nigeria a combined total of $8.84 million for electricity supplied during the fourth quarter of 2024. This information was detailed in NERC’s Q4 2024 report, which outlines remittances from both domestic and international customers.

The debts are attributed to various international bilateral customers, including:

  • Paras-SBEE (Benin Republic): Paid $2.65 million.
  • Paras-CEET (Benin Republic): Remitted $1.64 million.
  • Transcorp-SBEE (Ughelli) (Benin): Settled $1.71 million of its $3.59 million invoice.
  • Transcorp-SBEE (Afam 3) (Benin): Paid $0.90 million out of $1.2 million.
  • Odukpani-CEET (Togo): Owes $2.37 million.

Notably, Mainstream-NIGELEC (Niger Republic) fully settled its $2.60 million invoice during the same period.

These outstanding debts highlight ongoing financial challenges in Nigeria’s electricity supply to neighboring countries.
