In a tragic incident, Felix Sughter Nyikyaa, a 100-level student at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), Benue State, drowned in the River Benue just a day before his scheduled matriculation ceremony. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 9, 2025, and his body was recovered on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
The National Association of Benue State Students’ President, Ashar Lubem, confirmed the incident, stating that Felix had been missing since Sunday. After extensive search efforts, his body was found floating near the riverbank. Lubem mentioned that the association is investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning to determine if it was accidental or if foul play was involved.
Felix was enrolled in the Department of Agribusiness within the College of Management Sciences at JOSTUM. His peers and university community members have expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Tsekaa Amos, a fellow student, noted that Felix was set to participate in the matriculation ceremony on Monday, making the timing of his death particularly heartbreaking.
